This Website was started with the advent of wordpress software. Up until that point I had been composing a website using HTML code or an easy way to start was to copy what I had previously written using HTML code. WordPress is an easier and a faster method of composing a site. It also arrived at a time when remembering things was becoming more difficult to me.
At each period of my life there is a description on one of the pages on the right. The first group are in historical order and the second group are in alphabetical order. I have lived a long life and have been lucky enough to have done a lot of things in a variety of occupations. I don’t expect that the site as a whole would be of any great use to very many people. In fact it could be rather boring, individual pages have shown to have interest to those who have experienced similar times however.
A case in point is ” ancestors” which was spotted by those named litten. One particular group of Littens (my mother’s maiden name) enabled me to meet children of my uncle Bill. These cousins came from near and far and I was able to meet them for the very first time.
My time in the army with the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire light infantry interested a number of people who got in touch.
I have followed up these and other instances in the “Other pages” listed further down on the right.

I have just finished reading the book the railway man and was interested to read that he was a very shy person . I too was a very shy person in my younger years. So i found it interesting to look at the records that i had made on my website called freds memory. When I left school at the age of 14 I was certainly very shy . My first job with the post office as a boy messenger did nothing to change my shyness . My next job with the Oxfordshire Constabulary that helped a little . Then after doing several aptitude tests, recommended for an officer should have helped me to overcome my shyness. However when I was interviewed by an officer in the training camp and  was told to look him in the eye; I found that difficult so my shyness had not entirely disappeared. My subsequent duty as a weapon training instructor gave me a great deal of confidence and then to be chosen to manage the officers mess finally solved my shyness .
I have recorded by various activities in my blog called freds memory. Some of the jobs that I was asked to do were perhaps beyond the capabilities of a person who left school at 14 years of age. For instance being commended for a commission after only 5 weeks in the army and to be asked to manage the officers mess at the Battalion headquarters the equivalent of a first class hotel manager. Chefs, waiters and batmen, all under my control I no longer felt “shy”.You will have notice the phrase “To be asked” that was unique!
